WEEK 3 - Headline
What is Headline?
A headline is one of the most important pieces of communication in advertising. It is designed to draw customers attention to read into the ad. It definitely makes a difference between which stories get read and which get ignored. If you do it well, you’ll turn a prospective customer into a sale but if you do it poorly, the whole pitch will properly get passed over.
Tips for writing great headline
One of the tips of creating a good headline is by stating the offering or guarantee in the headline. These tips work the best especially when you have a promotion going on. By this, you can write a clear and concise headline that will lure customers in. For example, “Get 3 months of Spotify Premium for $0.99” by Spotify. Furthermore, your print ad will stand out by making a bold and simple headline. Make a statement that is noticeable enough to grab people’s attention. For example, the headline “ I WANT TO GET CANCER before it gets you” by the Irish Cancer Society (The Irish Times, 2017). Lastly, good headlines that stated a reason can help jump-start your entire ad. You can simply show what or why your product is better than that. For instance, “Another reason to get Hawaii’s Fastest Internet” from Road Runner and the print ads “Here’s one good reason to buy a Pony. Here are 34 more” from Hyundai (Hobbydb, 2017).

I agree with what have stated in this article, a great headlines doesn't need long explanations to lure customers in. A great headlines must be simple, significant, emphasize the products' benefit, and last but not least it must be stand out, so it can attracted people to see your headline.
ReplyDeleteBut, as mention for one of the example: "I WANT TO GET CANCER before it gets you." Me as a society observer, might think that this campaign is trying to get people awareness by this emotional appeal. But the way they represented is just too offensive either for the cancer survivors and the current sufferers. But, we can say that's the way they make their headline as attractive as it can to get people's attention.
